Efforts to Restore Wolves in Colorado

For the past hundreds of years, wolves have become an essential part of the landscape of Colorado. And yet, this is no longer the case for the past 70 years for Colorado wolves. That is why there is a growing effort to bring back the heritage of having wolves in Colorado. The natural balance of Colorado’s landscape has been affected negatively with their absence. That is because they are key species in the environment. It is a good thing that an opportunity is presented through The Rocky Mountain Wolf Project that would help restore the natural balance of Colorado by bringing Colorado wolves back to benefit the present and future generations. Understanding the importance of reintroduction of wolves in Colorado can be made possible starting here for more details.

The western portion of Colorado offers public lands that are both remote and expansive making it a perfect place for wolves to thrive. But then, bringing back wolves in Colorado can only be made possible with teamwork and group efforts. This project should not call in more problems with Colorado being both biologically and socially viable. Based on statistics, 60-70 percent of Coloradans support bringing back wolves in Colorado.

In the Northern Rockies, gray wolves have proceeded to occupy the location ever since their reintroductions in Yellowstone National Park. However, they are yet to be seen in the Southern Rockies of the western portion of Colorado. This area has been shown to be the missing link for the wolf conservation efforts of the Rocky Mountains. Ensuring that Colorado wolves would be restored is the only way for North American wolves to be reconnected from the area of Alaska to the area of Mexico. Wolf reintroduction would only be significant in terms of its conservation and biological value when this is completed.

Letting the public understand about the behavior of gray wolf, options to reestablish the species, and the ecology is one of the many efforts of the Defenders of Wildlife, that is a participating organization of The Rocky Mountain Wolf Project. This Project is made up of 20 organizations that seek to restore Colorado wolves. If you want to learn about The Rocky Mountain Wolf Project, click here.

In order for the public to better understand the importance of wolf restoration, they must be shown what having wolves in the ecosystem would mean. For a long time, wolves have always been shown to be negative species from bedtime stories and the like. It is time that these stories be changed. For wolf restoration to take place, a different story must be told. Accurate stories should be told if you want people to better appreciate the existence of wolves.

In Colorado for thousands of years, wolves have always been essential wildlife beings. It is essential for future generations to experience what it is like to have wolves roaming around the Colorado landscape.
